Atlantis / Атлантида (2019) takes place in a near-future, post-war Ukraine, a country deeply damaged by violence, environmental destruction and years of militarism. Although the film was made before the full-scale Russian invasion it feels strikingly prophetic: its images of ruined cities, displaced people and exhausted landscapes echo the ongoing war that is still tearing lives and communities apart today. With its slow, raw and honest style the film shows how state violence leaves deep scars on both humans and nature. At the same time it highlights the small but persistent acts of care, solidarity and rebuilding that come from ordinary people. In a world where official institutions have collapsed or become hostile, Atlantis reminds us that collective life survives through mutual aid and human connection, fragile but essential.
